2. What We Collect and Why
2.1 Server logs
When you access this site, the hosting provider automatically processes data your browser transmits, including IP address, date and time, requested URL, HTTP status, referrer, and user-agent string. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (f) GDPR — legitimate interest in operating and securing the service. Retention: 30 days, then deleted.
2.2 Account data
If you register an account, we process the email address, name (if provided), authentication data, and language preference. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR — performance of contract. Retention: for the duration of your account; deleted imediatly days after account deletion, except where retention is required by law.
2.3 Lesson and chat data
To deliver the tutoring service we store the messages you exchange with the AI tutor, lesson progress, and usage metadata (e.g. token counts, cost) linked to your account. Legal basis: Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR. Retention: kept while your account is active; deleted on account deletion.
2.4 Cookies
We use only strictly necessary cookies (session, CSRF, theme preference). No tracking or marketing cookies are set. Legal basis: § 25 (2) No. 2 of the German Telecommunications Digital Services Data Protection Act (TDDDG) — strictly necessary for the requested service. If we ever introduce non-essential cookies (analytics, advertising), they will be loaded only after your explicit consent via a banner.
3. Recipients and Processors
We share personal data with the following processors under Art. 28 GDPR:
- Hosting: Hetzner Online GmbH, Industriestr. 25, 91710 Gunzenhausen, Germany. Servers operated in Germany / the EU. Purpose: provision of the website infrastructure and storage of application data. Data Processing Agreement: hetzner.com/AV/DPA_en.pdf.
- AI inference: OpenRouter, Inc., United States. Purpose: forwarding your chat messages to the underlying language-model provider to generate the tutor's responses. OpenRouter routes requests to upstream model providers; the specific provider depends on the model selected. Privacy policy: openrouter.ai/privacy. Terms: openrouter.ai/terms.
4. International Transfers
Hetzner processes data within Germany / the EU, so no third-country transfer occurs there.
OpenRouter is established in the United States and forwards prompts to upstream model providers, some of which are also located outside the EU/EEA. The United States is currently the subject of an EU Commission adequacy decision (the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework, Implementing Decision (EU) 2023/1795). Where the recipient is not certified under that framework, the transfer is based on Standard Contractual Clauses pursuant to Art. 46 (2) (c) GDPR.
You should avoid sending personal data of third parties or special-category data (Art. 9 GDPR) into the chat, as such data would be transmitted to OpenRouter and the upstream model provider as part of generating the response.

- Right of access (Art. 15 GDPR)
- Right to rectification (Art. 16)
- Right to erasure (Art. 17)
- Right to restriction of processing (Art. 18)

You have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection supervisory authority, in particular in the Member State of your habitual residence, place of work, or place of the alleged infringement (Art. 77 GDPR). Our competent authority is the Baden-Württemberg Data Protection Supervisory Authority.
7. Automated Decision-Making
We do not use your personal data for automated decision-making, including profiling, that produces legal or similarly significant effects on you (Art. 22 GDPR). The AI tutor generates responses based on your inputs but does not make decisions with legal effects.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the service evolves. Material changes will be communicated by email or in-app notice before they take effect.
